Contemporary Governance and Crime Control Erifili Bakirli, PhD in Criminology Abstract: Aim of the present study is the practice of contemporary governance in crime control. Given that policing has become ‘plural’ and ‘multileveled’, the author examines the role of new ‘anti-crime’ partners becoming from community and private sector. At the same time, the question remains if state is‘hollowed out’in its effort to decentralizemodern criminal policy, or if it remains themain‘player’, considering that it is charged with the‘steering’, leaving‘rowing’to the other security agents. Furthermore, the book focuses on how ‘new governance of security’ is shaped in the ‘risk society’and mainly after terrorist attacks 9/11 in USA, as well as on the antiterrorist measures taken since then. Finally, the results of the research conducted by the author, concerning howgovernance of security is applied in Greece and by whom, are presented.
