Alternative Financing through the Internet Athanasios Kouloridas, Attorney at law, Lecturer, Athens University of Economics and Business ISBN 978-960-622-818-6 Abstract: The present study deals with the modern and currently evolving practice of financing through internet platforms, known as crowdfunding. Such practice gained popularity due to recent technological developments which enable inter- action among internet users. The analysis starts with a presentation of the various forms of crowdfunding ( donation crowdfunding, reward crowdfunding, p2p lend- ing, invoice trading, crowd-investing) and the differences from the traditional bank lending and raising capital through capital markets. The analysis follows with an ex- amination of the legal and regulatory aspects of various forms of crowdfunding and a review of the relevant developments at both national and European level. Action strategies and specific proposals for reinforcing the appeal of the mechanism in the Greek and Europeanmarket are also proposed. COPYRIGHT All rights reserved.
