Their import, their accommodation in the cultural milieu of their recep- tion, is a process both productive and violent. Concepts are never innocent. The intricate processes of concept formation often conceal a series of real-life bat- tles and disarrays, antagonisms and acts of resistance, silences, suppressions and omissions.
