We gratefully acknowledge receipt of the grant Jean Monnet Chair in Eu Solidarity in Civil Protection and Humanitarian Action awarded to Assistant Professor Maria Daniella Ma- rouda in 2016 to the Faculty of International European and Area Studies Department of Panteion University of Social and Political Studies EACEA -Co-funded by the Erasmus + European Union Jean Monnet Activities 2016- 2019 Maria Daniella Marouda, Jean Monnet Chair Holder 2016-2019 Research Team of the European Research and Training Center on Human Rights and Hu- manitarian Action (EKEKDAAD) Dr. Eleni Koutsouraki, Post Doc Fellow Dr Theofania Antoniou, Post Doc Fellow MA Maria Dimitrakopoulou, PHD Candidate MA Kostantina Tzavara, Researcher A few words on the Jean Monnet Chair EU Solidarity in Civil Protection and Humanitarian Action CIPROHA The Jean Monnet Chair co-funded by the European Union offers an innovative JMC CIPROHA anchors and mainstreams teaching on EU matters in International and European legal studies, through the lens of solidarity in migration, and other civil protection and response to natural or man-made disasters, the inter-relation be- tween humanitarian aid by traditional humanitarian actors, partners of ECHO, and state, or even military actors, and the challenges of blurring the lines of EU prin- cipled response to crises. Courses address contemporary issues and research skills related to EU civil protection and humanitarian action, employability both for the advancement of the professional careers of students as well as their personal lives. Through advanced seminars and Conferences, JMC CIPROHA has contributed to better pedagogic, academic and media coverage of new challenges and recent developments in the field of European response to disasters and civil protection. This implies giving more emphasis in teaching, in- class and out-of-class on group work, in situ simulations to new topics, as well as focusing research activities of the project team and of the students participating to contemporary challenges of EU humanitarian action. The Project also implies an increased involvement of the Project team in the academic debate on subjects such as the one presented in the current book as well as in a dialogue with media and interested public and NGOs in general.
