ECHR and establishment of filiation Maria-Andriani Kostopoulou Dr. Juris, Attorney at law at the Supreme Court of Greece, Chairperson of the Steering Committee of the Council of Europe for the Rights of the Child ISBN 978-960-654-267-1 Abstract: The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has been instrumental in shaping the concept of family on a pan-European scale, thus contributing to the harmonization of national legal systems in this field. The filiation is at the core of this concern and has been the subject of a large number of individual applications lodged with the ECtHR. This thesis examines the impact of ECtHR’s case-law on Greek law on filiation. The author examines, under the light of the European Con- vention of Human Rights (ECHR), both traditional and modern family relationships and explores whether Greek law is in conformity or in conflict with ECHR standards.
