It focuses on the need for spatial planning to be a priority policy, to ensure a decisive role in the development model of the country, and to be a key parameter of a modern de- mocracy. Spatial planning should not be treated as an inactive policy, or a bu- reaucratic obligation of the state which, however, has neither the political will, nor the necessary means to implement it. Finally, the need for the development of spatial thinking in Greece is emphasized. It is also recognized that “planers” should conceive new ideas, in order to promote effective management of mod- ern problems, giving a perspective on the sustainable development of Greece.
