Abstract: The book presents an overview of the criminal sanctions’ system

according to the Greek Penal Code. Apart from the scope of sanctioning it

highlights the main axes of the dual system of penalties and security/thera-

peutic measures, it analyses institutions that can reform the legislative penalty

framework, e.g. recidivism and mitigating factors, it discusses the sentencing

guidelines and presents also the central institutions for the implementation

of sanctions (i.e. early release on probation or house arrest under electronic

surveillance). The analysis of the book is supported by the main modern juris-

prudence of the criminal courts on the relevant subjects.
