Dr. Maria Stylianidou

Member of the Board of Directors of Hellenic Single

Public Procurement Authority - HSPPA

Abstract:

The first person who understands the threat of maladministra-

tion, mismanagement and corruption in a public or private organisation

is usually a person who works within the organisation or cooperates very

closely with it. Whistleblowing is the act of disclosing information from

a public institution or private with the purpose of revealing cases of cor-

ruption or secrecy that are of immediate or potential danger to the public

interest. The following study refers specifically to the protection that the

whistleblowers officials enjoy in international organisations and in the

public sector of european countries.
