Abstract:

This book analyzes the institutional and regulatory framework in the

energy sector in Greece. It aims to be a comprehensive reference work for legal

theory and practice. The structure of the work follows the evolution of the

energy sector comprising oil, natural gas, coal and renewable energy sources.

First there is analysis of the development of the EU regulatory framework,

followed by chapters on the administrative organization of the energy sector,

natural gas, renewable energy sources, lignite, oil and electricity. This struc-

ture reflects the increasing importance of natural gas and renewables, with

a corresponding decline of coal and oil, while electricity is examined last as

secondary field. The analysis includes the latest developments which have re-

shape the energy institutional and regulatory landscape in Greece such as the

upgrading of independent authorities, the integration of the Third EU Energy

Package, further liberalization of the electricity and gas markets, security of

supply mechanisms etc.
