MEPIELAN Studies in International Environmental Law and Negotiation
is an ini-
tiative of the Mediterranean Programme for International Environmental Law and
Negotiation (MEPIELAN). The Studies, which will be published as an edited Series,
will include a wide range of works on current issues in international environmental
law and negotiation that are of global, regional and national importance with em-
phasis on the Mediterranean region. The aim of the Series is to promote an interdisci-
plinary approach embracing the legal, political and linguistic aspects of international
environmental law and publish innovative international scholarship in this field.
The Mediterranean Programme for International Environmental Law and Ne-
gotiation is an international programme under the scientific direction of Profes-
sor Evangelos Raftopoulos, operating under the aegis of the Panteion University of
Athens. It is supported by the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) a regional envi-
ronmental regime operating within the framework of the United Nations Environ-
ment Program (MAP/UNEP). MEPIELAN seeks to promote education, research,
training, public awareness and information in the fields of international environ-
mental law, sustainable development and negotiation in relation to the Mediter-
ranean region, thus fostering an integrated approach to environmental governance
regimes in the Mediterranean area. Its website is <
