          tiative of the Mediterranean Programme for International Environmental Law and
        
        
          Negotiation (MEPIELAN). The Studies, which will be published as an edited Series,
        
        
          will include a wide range of works on current issues in international environmental
        
        
          law and negotiation that are of global, regional and national importance with em-
        
        
          phasis on the Mediterranean region. The aim of the Series is to promote an interdisci-
        
        
          plinary approach embracing the legal, political and linguistic aspects of international
        
        
          environmental law and publish innovative international scholarship in this field.
        
        
          The Mediterranean Programme for International Environmental Law and Ne-
        
        
          gotiation is an international programme under the scientific direction of Profes-
        
        
          sor Evangelos Raftopoulos, operating under the aegis of the Panteion University of
        
        
          Athens. It is supported by the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) a regional envi-
        
        
          ronmental regime operating within the framework of the United Nations Environ-
        
        
          ment Program (MAP/UNEP). MEPIELAN seeks to promote education, research,
        
        
          training, public awareness and information in the fields of international environ-
        
        
          mental law, sustainable development and negotiation in relation to the Mediter-
        
        
          ranean region, thus fostering an integrated approach to environmental governance
