Law of International Organizations

A. Bredimas - G. Kyriakopoulos

Abstract:

This manual focuses on the general theory of international organiza-

tions on the basis of a comparative study of their institutions and functions.

The legal rules discussed herein are delimited by the interplay of two trends:

On one side, the autonomy of international organizations in the performance

of their functions; on the other, that international institutions are secondary

international legal persons, being the creation of states that founded them for

their needs. The characteristics of international organizations are so diverse

that finding common elements is problematic. Nevertheless, some concepts are

common to all international organizations. These common elements (constitu-

ent instrument, legal personality, State participation, organizational structure,

decision-making process, immunities and privileges) constitute the main sub-

jects of this work.
