The "Community Method" challenged &
the "European Constitutionalism" at risk

Michail D. Chrysomallis
Associate Professor, Faculty of Law DUTH
Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to explore the risks related to adressing
the multi-level EU crisis that Member States’ choises pose to European inte-
gration. The study initially adresses the notions of the “Community Method’’
as well as the content of “European Constitutionalism”, which constitute the
core of the unification endeavour. It continues exploring the consequences
of “Community Method’’ and “European Constitutionalism’’ on account of
both the introduction of the Open Method of Coordination and the solutions
that Member States have chosen for adressing the current financial crisis and
for strengthening European Economic Governance, especially the intergov-
ernmental shift in Eurozone governance with the conclusion of the Fiscal
Compact and the establishment of the European Stability Mechanism.
