The author as Lawyer and Professor of Criminal Law at Democritus

the Inter American Court of Human Rights and in the European Court of Human
Rights. Especially in Greece, in the last decade it has grown dangerously wave of
lawsuits, and actions, for the offense of defamation. The author considers that is
necessary to add a defamation purpose in the criminal status of defamation crime.
Only in this way can be evaluated by the courts of the real cases of infringement
of the price of each victim. Τhis theory restores the necessary balance between
freedom of dissemination of ideas and information and the offense of defamation.
