LEGAL INSTRUMENTS OF STRATEGIC SPATIAL PLANNING

Theory and Practice

Marios Haidarlis

Assistant Professor in the Department of Planning and Regional

Development of the School of Engineering, at the University of Thessaly, Lawyer

Abstract:

This study attempts to illustrate the legal nature and the individual

characteristics, in general, of the legal instruments of strategic character and ori-

entation through the approach and analysis of the rules contained. The analysis

covers the General (National) Framework for Spatial Planning and Sustainable

Development, the Special Frameworks for Spatial Planning, the Regional Frame-

works for Spatial Planning and the Local Spatial Plans. As being one of the most

crucial elements in the framework of the strategic spatial planning legislation,

this study highlights the question of the legal correlation among the above-men-

tioned legal instruments, in conjunction with the binding effect of the regulations

that each one contains.
