The Mediterranean Programme for International Environmental Law and Ne-
gotiation (MEPIELAN) is an international programme created and directed by
Professor Evangelos Raftopoulos, which is under the aegis of the Panteion Uni-
versity of Athens and is supported by MAP/UNEP. MEPIELAN seeks to promote
education, research, training, public awareness and information in the fields of
international environmental law, sustainable development and negotiation in re-
lation to the Mediterranean region, thus fostering an integrated approach to en-
